Every day, I see people around me living and reliving their lives in their comfort zones.
Our comfort zones dictate our ‘mental actions’ and ‘physical performances’ - keeping us stuck in the mediocrity of what is, instead of fiercely aspiring for what will be.
As a result...
Leaders choose to not follow their calling.
Teams get comfortable running with the pack rather than breaking ahead.
And, normal performances create boring results.
Let me show you how.
My journey started in South Central Los Angeles where I dealt with gangs, drugs, violence, and raising my little brother while we were homeless and starving. After graduating from the United States Air Force Academy with a degree in Geospatial Science, I became a pilot in the United States Air Force.
In July of 2019 I was stationed at Beale Air Force Base in California. I was feeling very down and depressed, so I spent four hours alone in my house praying and daydreaming. God revealed himself to me that day and gave me a front row seat to my own presentation. I watched myself tell the grand story of my life in front of thousands of people.
When the ‘me’ onstage was done, God handed me ‘my book’. He allowed me to flip through the chapters and see what I was going to write. The events of my life in the book had already taken place, so I just needed to fill out all the chapters in the table of contents that God had shown me.
Today, I use the inspiration from my own journey to empower others to be on par with their own greatness.

Y.A. Salimu almost feels too grown-up in this YA memoir as his compelling story occasionally shifts from gripping novel to raw ego, putting the reader right there in the city with him. Salimu’s story is tough to listen to at times, but roars of laughter await anyone brave enough to walk in this man’s shoes.
Readers expecting a sad Oliver Twist tale will instead find a confident, talented protagonist who continually defies low expectations and inspires those around him.
